All players must be 18 years of age or older.

Hours of play: Play will begin at 7:15 pm and end no later 10:25 pm. There will be 3 matches per evening. A match will consist of the best 2 out of 3 games. If a team wins the first 2 games, the 3rd game will not be played.

Format: Three teams will be placed in a gym. The 3 teams will all play against each other throughout an evening according to the schedule. Play shall be halted 5 minutes before the next scheduled game to allow for warm-ups.

The team not playing will referee. The team must provide a minimum of three (3) people; one to act as referee and two to call the lines.

One (1) time out per team per game will be allowed.

If the ball touches the net on the serve - net serve - then, the ball is live.

Line-ups: A minimum of 5 players per court and maximum 3 males.

Substitutions: (7 or more players) - Teams with more than 6 players have the following three options:

1. Player sits the entire game
2. Player sits for one full rotation then subs for one other player (see Rotation), again full rotation. (works out to about half a 25pt game)
3. Players enters the rotation from either the 1 or 6 positions only (see Rotation)

Rotation: A team has two (2) options of where players may enter the court: A player may enter at the middle back position (#6) and then exit after serving (#1) or a player may enter at the serving position (#1) and exit from the front right (#2) position.

(5 players) - Teams with 5 players can only play with 2 in the front row.  There will be No rotating Hole and No loss of serve.  You can have a setter come up from the back row to set, but only the front two can block or hit (updated 10/06/09)All back row players must line up behind AT LEAST ONE PHYSICAL front row player (updated 3/31/10).

Teams must have a minimum of 5 players to begin the first game. Teams have a 10 minute grace period before a forfeit for the first game is declared. A subsequent 10 minute grace period is allowed before the second game is declared forfeit and also for the third. At such time the match would then be forfeit.

Late arrivals: Late arriving players may enter play once all players and substitutes have entered play in that game. If a team is playing with a "hole", the arriving player may enter play immediately

A serve cannot be blocked or spiked.

Back row spiking: A back row spiker may complete an attack hit at any height from behind the attack line; at his/her takeoff from the floor, the player's feet must neither have touched nor crossed over the attack line; but, after the hit, may land ahead of the attack line.  A back row spiker may also complete an attack hit from ahead of the attack line if at the time of the hit, the ball is not entirely higher than the top of the net. Net height: The net shall be placed at the Senior Men's Level (2.35m).

REFEREES WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE LAST WORD AND THEIR DECISIONS SHOULD BE RESPECTED.

At the end of the regular season, the team with the top standing in division D and E, may be moved up by one level. The teams with the lowest standing in Division C and D may be moved one level lower. Movement of teams between divisions is at the discretion of the League Executive (updated 10/06/09). Only the top 8 teams qualify for playoffs.

Tie-breaker:  If there is a tie for any position in the final standings (teams with equal winning percentages), the following procedure will be used to break the tie:

  1. Most number of wins over the entire season

  2. One game playoff between the two teams that are tied

Scoring: Rally Point

A rally is a sequence of playing actions from the moment of the service hit by the server until the ball is out of play.

If the serving team wins a rally, it scores a point and continues to serve;

If the receiving team wins a rally, it scores a point and it must serve next.

A set is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two point.  In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued until a two point lead is achieved.

The match is won by the team that wins two sets.

In the case of a 1-1 tie, the deciding set (the 3rd) is played to 15 points with a minimum lead of 2 points.

Team in Charge:

·        Should arrive early, set up the nets, have score-sheets prepared and get play under way as outlined on the schedule on time.

·        Will monitor school doors until the other teams arrive.

Team Taking Equipment:

·        Take down nets at the end of the last match.

·        Return school equipment to the proper storage area and return league equipment to the equipment bag.

·        Collect the score-sheets and email them, no later than the following day.
